Test Your AI Visibility Yourself: How to Check ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity

04.11.2026 · 2 min read · by Sadettin Aksu

In short

Define 10 fixed customer questions, ask them once a month in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Mode, and record in a table whether, where and how you are named. AI answers vary, so the trend over months counts.

Step 1: Choose the right questions

Use questions real customers would ask, mixing three types:

  • Provider search: “Good advertising agency in Floridsdorf?”
  • Comparison: “Which agency in Vienna builds restaurant websites and what does it cost?”
  • Brand question: “What is digtatur and what do they offer?”

The brand question shows whether the AI knows you at all and describes you correctly.

Step 2: Test cleanly

  1. Open a new chat, ideally logged out or in a private window, so earlier conversations do not interfere.
  2. In ChatGPT, make sure web search is active.
  3. Word every question exactly as in the previous month.
  4. Save the answer as a screenshot.

Step 3: Evaluate

The example rows come from our own test in October 2026. Watch especially for wrong details such as old prices or addresses. They almost always come from a source on the web that you can correct.

Step 4: Measure visitors from AI

In Google Analytics, referral sources are under Acquisition. Visits from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com or claude.ai show that AI answers send people to you. In Google Search Console, impressions in AI Mode and AI Overviews are included in the normal performance data.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I get a different answer each time?

AI answers are generated fresh each time. So it is not one test that counts, but frequency over several runs and months.

Are there tools for this?

Yes, there are paid tools for measuring AI visibility. For small businesses the manual test is usually enough.
