What is drone footage suitable for?

Wherever overview, size or surroundings play a role:

For roof and façade documentation, we deliver images, not a structural assessment. Damage assessment or structural analysis requires specialists, for whom our shots can serve as a basis.

Aerial photos or drone video: what do I need?

Aerial photos are suited to listings, brochures, website, print and documentation. They are rich in detail, can be cropped freely and are found wherever images are needed. Our package includes up to 20 edited photos.

Drone videos show movement, space and relationships: an approach to a building, a flyover of a site, camera movements around an object. They work particularly well on a website, on social media, in ads and in a brand film.

For property and businesses, we usually recommend the combination, because photo and video fulfil different tasks: photos for listing and print, video for website and social media. The property and business package bundles both and is cheaper than two separate bookings. If you only need one format, the smaller package is enough.

What does drone footage cost in Vienna?

All prices are “from” prices, net, plus 20 % VAT. Travel within Vienna is included.

The final price depends on the size and number of properties, the length and editing effort of the video, any required permits and travel outside Vienna. Fees charged by authorities, if a permit is required for your location, are not included in the price; we state them in advance. You can find the overall overview under pricing. How does a drone job work?

A job consists of preparation, flight and post-production:

1. Enquiry and location check: You tell us the address, property and goal. We check geozones, flight restrictions and whether a permit is required.
2. Permits and consent: If necessary, we obtain permits. You clarify with the landowner that take-off and landing are permitted.
3. Scheduling: We choose the time of day and light to suit the subject and keep an eye on the weather forecast.
4. Flight: On site, we check the surroundings, wind and safety, secure the area and fly according to plan.
5. Editing and delivery: Selection, colour and editing, followed by delivery by download.

The flight itself does not take long, and the appointment on site usually takes one to two hours. The preparation often takes more time than the flight.

What happens in bad weather?

Drone flights depend on the weather. Strong wind, rain, fog and poor visibility prevent safe flights and good footage. We therefore decide at short notice whether to fly, and check the weather and forecast before every job. Safety always comes first.

If the weather does not cooperate, we agree a replacement date free of charge. For property, this means: if you are under pressure to sell, it is better to enquire early and plan a time window with fallback days. Beautiful light is not only a matter of sun; time of day and season also play a role: with the sun low, façades look more three-dimensional, while under overcast skies colours are more even.

If you have a deadline, for example for a listing or an opening, tell us in the initial consultation. We will then plan several possible dates.

What do I need to bear in mind legally?

Drone flights are subject to legal rules that are regulated uniformly in the EU and supplemented by national provisions in Austria. Here is an overview of the most important points, deliberately kept general:

• EU drone regulation: It determines under which conditions drones may be operated. In the open category, the maximum flight altitude is 120 m.
• Registration: Operators are registered with Austro Control.
• Proof of competency: The remote pilot demonstrates the necessary competency.
• Liability insurance: Suitable insurance is required for operating a drone.
• Geozones and flight restrictions: Particularly in Vienna, there are many areas with restrictions. Flights in certain zones and over gatherings of people are only possible with a permit.
• Personality rights and data protection: People and properties are to be respected when taking photos.
• Take-off and landing: The landowner’s consent is required.

Our process: Before every job, we check geozones, permits and weather. If a flight is not permitted or not safe at a location, we do not fly and discuss alternatives with you.

Why is flying in Vienna special?

Vienna is a dense city with many sensitive areas: air traffic, government and transport facilities, hospitals, parks, residential areas. As a result, there are flight restrictions or permit requirements in large parts of the city. That does not mean drone footage in Vienna is impossible, but it requires more planning than in the countryside.

For you, this means:

• Not every address may simply be flown over. We tell you early whether and under which conditions it is possible.
• Permits need lead time. Enquire in good time, especially if a fixed date is coming up.
• If a property cannot be flown over, we offer alternatives, such as shots from a permitted position nearby or conventional ground-level shots.

Outside Vienna, in Lower Austria, the same basic rules apply, but local conditions differ. There too, we check the location before the job.

What will I receive, and in which formats?

You receive fully edited footage, depending on the package booked:

• Aerial photos: up to 20 edited photos as JPG in web and print size, with colour correction and cropping
• Drone video: edited video as MP4 in 16:9 for website and YouTube and, on request, also in a vertical format for social media
• Property and business package: photo and video together, in the same look

Raw data is not automatically included but can be agreed. On use: you receive the agreed rights for your business communication, for example listing, website, social media, ads and print. Which mistakes often happen, and how do I choose a provider?

Typical mistakes:

• Flying without checking the geozone and permit, with the risk of penalties and problems for the client
• No consent from the landowner for take-off and landing
• No replacement date planned, and then the deadline is pressing
• Shooting at the wrong time of day, such as backlight or harsh shadows
• Too much video material without editing, too few usable photos
• Footage with identifiable people without regard for personality rights

How to choose a provider: Ask whether the operator is registered, whether the remote pilot has proof of competency and whether liability insurance is in place. Ask about the procedure for geozones and permits and about the arrangements for bad weather. A reputable provider answers this without hesitation.
